Do I have an accent yet?

Greetings from South Carolina!

I’ve officially been here for one week. The first few days were spent playing tourist around the city of Charleston which is such a beautiful and fun place to be. We saw the famous pineapple fountain, ate some amazing food and went on a haunted carriage ghost tour…where we learned the hotel we had been staying in was not only haunted and a stop on the tour, but considered the most haunted hotel in the city…But it actually made a lot of sense because one of the nights we were there I woke up in the middle of the night to rustling sounds over by the desk. I thought one of my kids had woken up and were trying to sneak some of their candy we had bought earlier that afternoon. No one was at the desk and both kids were sound asleep. Who ya gonna call?!

Ghost stories aside, after a few days we packed it up and made our way to my new house. It was love at first ACTUAL sight. You see, up until this point we hadn’t actually seen our house IN person! That’s right, we bought our house based off of a FaceTime walk through with our agent. It is a crazy ass market out there. But we knew if we saw something we liked we had to risk it because by the time we could fly down to see it in person, it would have been gone. Thankfully it all worked out! Phew!!

My husband arrived a few days later since he had to drive the 15 hours with our dog and 3 guinea pigs. He was a trooper though and drove it in one straight shot. Our moving truck was scheduled to come the day after that buuuut of course not everything could go as planned, right? No, we got a call that the truck was delayed by a week. A FREAKING WEEK!!! So we’ve just been rotating the clothes we had packed (thank god I always over pack) and thankfully the sellers left their washer and dryer behind!!

We’ve been sleeping on air mattresses that we had to go buy. We have no tv’s, no games, NO furniture but I was able to get the internet up and running so the kids IPads have been a damn lifesaver.

I did experience my first time grocery shopping at a Publix down here which was great. Prices are so much cheaper down here than back in Massachusetts. It’s mind blowing, except for one thing. A 12 pack of soda costs just under $7…I don’t think the South wants you drinking soda. But I need my Diet Coke..and by need I mean I’m going to open a can, take a few sips and be done with it. It’s just my thing.

They really do take things slow down here though. I gave birth in less time than it took the deli to get me my salami and swiss. BUT on the plus side, you can buy beer and wine (and seltzers) in all grocery stores down here.

Overall though, I really love it so far. Naturally we moved down here during what we are told is an “unusually hot heat wave”  that is sending even the natives running for shelter. Personally, it actually doesn’t feel that bad. The past few days have been 95 degrees with about 90% humidity so it feels hotter than Satan’s butthole but I sort of like it. It’s a different hot and humid than Massachusetts. I prefer this much more.

Now if this damn moving truck would show up, the rest of the pieces will fall into place.

Keep following for more exciting Carolina Chronicles!
