It’s an age old question. One that has been stumping mothers for eons. A question that many are afraid to ask for fear of judgement. The one question that, come 5 o’clock, has been festering in our minds for so long we feel as if we may pop. That question…when is an acceptable time to pour that glass of wine or shake up that cocktail? Hell, even crack open that can of White Claw?
Wine for one, has been around for centuries, I think (I really don’t know how long it’s actually been around, but I’m pretty sure it’s a really, really long time). It’s been said to reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s & even a stroke, it boosts your sex drive AND it’s FAT FREE. It also aids in the prevention of ripping husbands faces off & managing crazy kids. Plus it’s grapes & grapes are fruit. Fruit is healthy. It’s a win-win for all.
Vodka, my personal favorite contains nothing other than ethanol and water. It pretty much no nutritional value. There is no sugar (depending on your brand of choice), carbs, fiber, cholesterol, fat, sodium, vitamins, or minerals in vodka. It’s basically water. And hydration is so important.
Tequila, Whiskey, Rum…I mean, they all have their benefits. Just Google it. Just be careful with that Tequila. That shit is the Devil’s juice. Unless it’s in a Margarita of course because Margaritas make people happy.
Before Covid and quarantine I was constantly at a crossroads with myself over finding an “acceptable” time to crack open a bottle & pour a glass of that liquid gold. Do I have a drink with dinner? And if I do, can I still have one later in the evening after the kids go to bed while I binge watch Netlfix and Hulu? Or do I skip the glass at dinner & save it for TV time? Is it weird that while my kids & husband are drinking water or milk with their dinner, I’m across the table with my face in a glass of vino? Or even better, is it ok to start a glass while I’m making dinner? These were the questions that haunted me.
But not anymore my friends! If there is anything I’ve learned over these last few months, it’s that HELL YES IT’S OK…anytime!
Well, maybe not 9 o’clock in the morning, but I won’t judge.
I’m far beyond the legal drinking age. I tend to two children every day. Run errands, do the grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, letting the dog out for what feels like 500 times a day, driving to school, picking up from school, driving to gymnastics and all the other crap they do. Oh, and did I mention I work? Four days a week!
So I think it’s time to stop watching the clock and waiting for 5 o’clock to roll up. Do you, girl. Do you. And cheers!
