Who doesn’t love sunglasses, right?! I know I do…and even more so when you can buy a really cute pair AND make a difference (win-win)! There’s a company where I like to get sunglasses for me & the girls (yes, they sell kids!), it’s called Subsidy Shades & I love EVERYTHING about this company! Their story is one of my favorite love stories ever.
Subsidy Shades is run by husband & wife Robert & Melissa. They started the company in January 2014 as a way to help fund their second adoption, after their first one cost them nothing short of a small fortune. Here’s where their story gets really good (I needed a tissue the first time I read it). In February 2013, Melissa & Robert welcomed their first adoptive daughter Jacqueline into the world. Jacqueline’s birthmother is a mother to four children and dealt with some serious health issues during her pregnancy. With Melissa & Robert being the adoptive parents, they were responsible for all her medical costs. Then in June of 2013 Jacqueline’s birth family became homeless & were forced to live on the rough streets of Detroit. Melissa & Robert stepped in & with the help of their family & friends, they moved them all into their home until they were able to raise money to buy Jacqueline’s birthmother & her four kids a home of their own…which they did! IN FULL!
Now with the help of Subsidy Shades, Melissa is able to help other families raise funds for their adoptions! Within their first few months of business, they even had their own gifting suite at the MTV Movie Awards! AND they have been matched with a birthmother who is pregnant with baby #2, A BOY, due this holiday season!
